BEFORE & AFTER
Living Room Storage & Fireplace
The chimney-breast was cut away to expose the fireplace’s original brickwork. An antique marble surround dating from the 1880s was installed. Bespoke cupboards and shelves were made to run flush with the chimney-breast. The radiator on the left hand side was removed and a period Victorian unit was fitted on the opposite wall [the entire central heating system was replaced]. The property was fully rewired with energy efficient LED lights replacing the single pendant. Custom-made plantation shutters and a solid wood floor were installed.
Open Plan Kitchen
The doorframe was removed to allow light to pass through the property and take advantage of the high ceilings. The stud partition was removed and pushed back 1300mm [4¼ feet] and a single run kitchen installed. Despite limited space, all appliances, including a slim-line dishwasher were fitted. A quartz countertop with induction hob was installed so as not to disrupt the kitchen’s clean lines. Metro tiles were fitted in a brickwork pattern to maintain the building’s Victorian character.
The chimney flue was opened up and a specialist firm sub-contracted to make this functional. An antique Louis XV fireplace was sourced and fitted whilst black slate inserts and hearth were installed. The chimney-breast and walls were plastered. The original cornicing and skirting boards were restored. Farrow & Ball ‘Skimming Stone’ paint was used to finish and complement this original feature.
Huntsmore removed the tired and dated kitchen to replace it with a traditional styled kitchen. A marble counter top was fitted to give the kitchen a luxurious feel along with a large Belfast sink. A new double glazed timber sash window was installed as well as new cornicing which is in keeping with the building’s Victorian character.
The bathroom was totally renovated with the original bathtub swapped over for a shower area, and the pipework rearranged so that a high-level WC replaced the old sink basin. Carrara tiles with black cabochons adorn the floor and a cast iron bathtub with bath taps on stand pipes coming from the checkerboard sunroom floor. Huntsmore also designed and built a vanity unit with double basin and marble counter top.
This was a large studio flat that was converted to a one-bedroom apartment for the client. A stud partition wall was erected to divide the large space with a new entry doorway being created further along the wall. The existing doorway was blocked off and a wardrobe with mirrored doors built into the space. The property was ‘zoned’ into different areas to incorporate living and dining areas as well as benefitting from a full refurbishment.
The kitchen was removed and time spent at the design stage to incorporate as many appliances and storage options as possible. A hardwearing and stylish Quartz countertop was installed as well as smooth crackle metro tiles.
